I n this issue- Feature article - Non-negotiable Feature Article Make it Non-negotiable We have just returned from teaching overseas in Tokyo and Okinawa. We were working with a wonderful, talented, dedicated, hard working group of people who really need to be sure they look after themselves. To help in that process, we introduced the concept of making something as important as personal wellness techniques non-negotiable. Non-negotiable simply means that you do it first, without question, without doubt and before almost anything else in the day. The fact that 4 Minute Fitness and Easy Tai Chi take only a few minutes makes them easy to incorporate "non-negotiable processes". Yes -- there are all sorts of important things that happen in a day. All sorts of reasons for you to put your personal wellness practice on a back burner, to do "later" -- maybe tomorrow -- but in the big picture, is there anything more important than your health and well-being? Perspective is so important! People who give too much at work ultimately begin to feel frustrated and often move toward burnout, depression and chronic illness. How productive can you be at work, how effectively can you contribute to your family, how much joy can you find in your life if you are ill, in chronic pain or dead? Find an easy and effective wellness technique you enjoy. Those of you who have purchased Tai Chi for Busy People or 4 Minute Fitness -- make a commitment to practice once a day and make it "non-negotiable". If your life is so busy, so demanding that you cannot commit to five minutes once or twice a day, then it's probably a pretty good time to sit back and do some serious personal and professional re-evaluation. Just a thought.... www.easytaichi.com Life Quote "Let our advanced worrying become advanced thinking and planning". Winston Churchill It is a small difference, but changes to energy from negative to pro-active, thereby reducing stress levels, increasing quality of life.
Question Period Q. I feel somewhat self conscious practicing Easy Tai Chi in public. Yet -- there is something special about practicing outdoors and I LOVE it. What do you suggest? A. I practice Easy Tai Chi and 4 Minute Fitness indoors and outdoors. In the late 1970s when I practiced outdoors, people looked at me as if I was nuts. Few people then knew anything about Tai Chi. Now people walk by with barely a glance and I'll occasionally hear them say words "Tai Chi" to their companions. It is important to know that most people are familiar with Tai Chi practice -- it is getting as commonplace in parks or on beaches as jogging, Frisbee games and catch. The key is to find a safe, quiet place - not in the middle of the path - and just do it. Become one with your surroundings and your breathing. Your self consciousness will disappear and besides - most people love the grace, peace and flow of the movements. You may even serve as a stimulus for others to become involved in tai chi practice.
Food Fact Just in. Tragically - obesity and poor diets are about to overtake smoking as the number one preventable cause of death in North America. There are answers. If you are dealing with excess weight, I urge you to listen to "Easy Weight Loss for Busy People". Not only does it offer many "non calorie counting ways to lose weight, it offers many dietary survival strategies - ways to thrive in a world pushing toxic food. Get educated, get motivated, get excited. Be patient. Don't try to lose it all at once. You can lose the weight - gradually, slowly and permanently!
